You may recall several of these names as they have been associated with the AAU James E. Sullivan Award from over the years as well as the most recent 79th Annual Award.

Michael Phelps won the prestigious Sullivan Award in 2003 as well as being a finalist in 2008; he was a triple crown ESPY winner with the Best Championship Performance, Best Record Breaking Performance and Best Male Athlete of the Year awards.

The Best Female Athlete of the Year for 2008 was awarded to Nastia Liukin who was also a finalist for the 79th Annual AAU James E. Sullivan Award.  The Men’s 4×100 Freestyle Swim Relay Team was chosen for the Best Moment Espy Award; yet another finalist for this year’s Sullivan Award.  A semi-finalist for the 2008 Sullivan Award, Erin Popovich, was named Best Female Athlete with a Disability Award.  The 2007 Sullivan Award Winner, Tim Tebow, was awarded the Best College Athlete for the second year in a row.

Congratulations to all of these young, talented athletes.
