ESPNRISE ranks Cheerleading as one of the toughest sports of the fall season.
September 9th, 2009On August 13, 2009 ESPNRISE release an article ranking the toughest sports of the fall season. Cheerleading came second to football, getting a 4.5 out of 5 points. The article goes on to explain, what many may ignore about the demands of this sport, stating that “Cheerleading is more than pumping up the crowd during sporting events and pep rallies, it’s tumbling, dance and stunting. This requires the athletes to be in top physical condition. Imagine holding another person in the air and then having to catch them on the way down as they are spinning. Cheerleaders are expected to know the sports they cheer for and they have to remember the choreography to hundreds of cheers, chants and dances.”
Every year, the Amateur Athletic Union brings hundreds of cheerleaders to the AAU Junior Olympic Games, a competition where spectators may witness why ESPNRISE ranked cheerleading as one of the toughest fall sports. For information on how to join AAU Cheerleading, visit www.aaucheerleading.org
