The Holy Trinity High Flyers from Ligonier, PA had the opportunity to perform before an enthusiastic public health community crowd of attendees at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s “Weight of the Nation” Conference in Washington, DC in late July just before departing for the AAU Junior Olympics in Des Moines, Iowa. The purpose of the CDC’s inaugural conference was to provide a forum for highlighting the nation’s progress in the prevention and control of obesity through policy and environmental strategies.

Conference sessions discussed strategies implemented in four settings—community, medical care, school and workplace—that have led to policy and environmental changes which may improve population-level health.  The primary audience was elected and appointed public policy makers; federal, state and local public health leaders; as well as partners and researchers engaged in policy related obesity prevention and control initiatives.  The High Flyers demonstrated at the conference’s Monday night reception with over 300 attendees.  The crowd was ecstatic after the High Flyers’ performance and the demonstration underscored the role Jump Rope has in promoting lifetime physical activity and fitness for people of all ages.
