Interview with Shelly Proa, AAU Cheerleading National Chair
Felipe Arboleda interview with AAU National Cheerleading Chair Shelly Proa
How long have you been involved with the sport of Cheerleading?
I have been a National Chair since 2003 and was a High School cheerleader, so a total of 24 years.
Why did you choose Cheerleading?
I became involved with cheerleading because of the opportunities it can create for girls and boys, as well as promote team work, confidence and athletics in children.
I am actively involved in AAU Gymnastics, as a National Events Coordinator. I find that the AAU provides a chance for athletes of all levels of ability to have that gold medal experience not only in competition but in day to day practices and events.
What’s in the future of AAU Cheerleading?
We are planning to offer competitions at the regional level in addition to local, state and national competition as we have now.
