Powerlift on the Plains

Brookings, SD – For the first time in 23 years, Powerlifting returned to the campus of South Dakota State University in Brookings, SD on Saturday, November 21. The AAU meet, Powerlift on the Plains, saw one American Record set and Orchard, Nebraska win the team trophy.
The American Record was set by 9 year-old Westin Trenhaile of Volga, SD. Westin, lifting in the 88 lbs. weight class, dead lifted 143.25 lbs. for the record. Westin also finished with a squat of 88 lbs. and a bench press of 55 lbs. for a total of 286.25 lbs.
The outstanding teen lifter award went to Sung Yeon Han of Orchard, Nebraska. Lifting in the 123 lbs. raw weight class, 17 year-old Han squatted 220.25 lbs., bench pressed 143.25 lbs., and dead lifted 303 lbs. for a 666.50 total.
The outstanding open lifter award went to Lincoln, Nebraska lifter, Kenneth Ruben. Ruben, a 242 lbs. raw lifter, squatted 584 lbs., bench pressed 413.25, and dead lifted 606.25 lbs., to finish with a 1603.50 lbs. total.
