Wrapping up the AAU World Powerlifting Championships

The AAU World Powerlifting Championships, were held at the Crown Reef Resort, Myrtle Bch, SC this past weekend on November 28th & 29th, 2009. The results are posted at http://aaupowerlifting.org/Results/NationalResults.aspx

Dave Mansfield, AAU Powerlifting Sports Medicine Chair was awarded the Brother Bennett Chairman’s Award as the legacy of AAU Powerlifting continues. Ivy Schuler was awarded the Barbara Beasley Award for demonstrating dedication, compassion and commitment to advancing and improving the sport of Powerlifting. Big Iron Gym from Massachusetts won the 1st place team trophy. Congratulations to all the participants.

Evan Pittman (pictured below), 11, from Tampa, Florida, set nine world records in the 77 lb. class at this years World’s, including a 194 lb deadlift.  Evan received enthusiastic encouragement from the Brazilian National Powerlifting Team during his record attempts, and posed with them at the Myrtle Beach airport after the meet.  Evan trains for powerlifting twice a week with his father, and also runs track, plays soccer, and is a 2009 AAU Junior Olympic Games Taekwondo Champion.
