The end of the 2010 AAU Junior National Volleyball Championships found many club volleyball teams traveling home or to other tournaments around the country. For Stephanie Holthus and Liz McMahon, the end of the tournament brought a trip to Tijuana, Mexico, for the NORCECA Women’s Junior Continental Championship.

Shortly after the two played with their club teams in the AAU Junior National Championships, Holthus and McMahon won first place in the NORCECA tournament with the U.S. Women’s Junior National Volleyball Team.

This win marks the fourth straight year the U.S. team has won gold at the annual tournament held by the North, Central America and Caribbean Volleyball Confederation (NORCECA).

Holthus, a libero and outside hitter from Elgin, Ill., tallied seven points on six kills and a block during the championship match against the Dominican Republic.

Holthus also found success at the AAU Junior National Volleyball Championships with her team Club Fusion 18 Black. The team placed fifth in the 18 open division, and Holthus was named to the All-American team for her efforts during the tournament.

McMahon, an opposite hitter and middle blocker from Liberty Township, Ohio, tallied three points with three kills and a block during the NORCECA finals match.

McMahon’s club team, Team Z 17 Orange, finished ninth in the 17 open division of the AAU Junior National Volleyball Championships.

Holthus and McMahon plan to continue playing volleyball in college and have both committed to NCAA Division I universities. Holthus signed to play at Northwestern University this fall, and McMahon verbaled to play at the University of Illinois after she graduates in 2011.

These volleyball players exemplify the excellence for which the AAU strive and demonstrate the quality of its athletes.
