Former AAU Baton Twirler Reaches Semifinals for Miss America Live

ORLANDO, FL (January 7, 2008)– Diana Reed, a former AAU Baton Twirling athlete and Joel Ferrell Outstanding Performance Memorial Award winner, is a semifinal contestant for Miss America Live. She has been nominated to represent the state of Iowa as “Miss Iowa.”  Each Friday night in January, The Learning Channel (TLC) will air Miss America Reality Check at 10/9c. Viewers and fans can vote online for “America’s Choice Finalist” which will air Friday, January 26 at 8/7c. 

Reed, the only semifinalists to have Baton Twirling as her talent, is from Norwalk, Iowa. At the age of 23, she is a graduate of Iowa University and their College of Business. Her career ambitions are to perform on Broadway and become an entrepreneur in the performing arts industry. 

The top ten finalists will have the opportunity to perform their talents on live television when Miss America airs January 26 at 8/7c on TLC. Among her many accolades, which include scholastic honors on the President’s and Dean’s List at University of Iowa, Reed also received a very prestigious award from Amateur Athletic Union at the AAU Junior Olympic Games in 2004. Upon receiving the Joel Ferrell Outstanding Performance Memorial Award, Reed joined multiple other talented athletes representing each official sport at the AAU Junior Olympic Games.
