The eighth annual Girls-N-Sports event was held on February 2nd at Disney’s Wide World of Sports ® Complex in Orlando, Florida. Each year this event brings together the AAU and the Florida Girls Scouts for a fun-filled celebration of girls and sports. The 2008 edition of Girls-N-Sports included over 200 participants and chaperones who took part in five different sports clinics, including: basketball, baton twirling, hip-hop dance, lacrosse, and taekwondo.

Along with participating in various sports activities at a state-of-the-art facility, girls and their chaperones took part in the opening ceremonies, in which they were able to listen to former University of Toledo Women’s basketball player, Shekinah Brazzle, deliver a speech on the importance of sports in a girl’s life. Participants were also entertained by a baton twirling and taekwondo demonstrations. After the last sports clinic, all the girls received a Gold AAU medallion and a Girls-N-Sports patch during the closing send off.

A slideshow of photos from the event can be found at the AAU Girls-N-Sports photo gallery. This year’s event was a huge success and the AAU would like to thank all Girl Scout troops and individuals who participated.
