DETROIT — Franklin resident Kendall Baisden, 13, set two national records last week while winning the 200- and 400-meter races at the AAU Junior Olympic Games in Ypsilanti. Baisden, who runs for the Farmington Hills-based Swift Track Club, was selected as the outstanding track and field performer of the AAU Junior Olympic Games.

Baisden set her first mark in the 200-meter preliminaries on July 29, finishing in 24.84 seconds to break the previous AAU Junior Olympic Games record of 24.89 set in 2005. Baisden then improved her mark to 24.55 while winning her semi-final heat July 31. Last Saturday she lowered the record to 24.03 as she won the final.

Earlier in the day Saturday, Baisden won the 400-meter final in 54.72, breaking the record of 55.70 previously set by Flint’s Dynasty McGee in 2006.

Several Southfield-based athletes posted strong performances Saturday, led by Jordyn Willis, who took fifth in the girls primary division (eight years old and under) long jump with a leap of 10-feet, 11.75 inches. Michael Williams also earned a medal by taking seventh in the boys primary 100-meter run (14.27).

Torin Wile finished ninth in the boys youth (14 years old) 3000 meters (9:48.44) and Jairen Caraballo was 20th in the boys primary long jump (10-5).

Ferndale’s Jasmine Hayward finished 11th in the young women’s 3000 (13:31.73)
