The 2009 AAU International Women’s Fastpitch Softball Tournament was held at the Osceola County Softball Complex, on January 30th through February 1st, 2009.  The tournament had a great showing of talent and competitiveness.  The 10 participating teams traveled to this tournament from all over North and Central America.

The pool and bracket play began on Friday.  Each team played four games within a 26 hour period.  It was an exciting event with teams looking to advance to the championship round.   The Saturday morning games ended with 8 teams advancing into the single elimination playoffs.

The quarterfinal games included Georgia Perimeter College versus Juncos – Valencianas, Broward College versus Ranger Tijuana, Puerto Rico Team Red versus Young Harris College, and Puerto Rico Team Gray versus Guaynabo Conquistadoras.

The semifinal games included Georgia Perimeter College playing Young Harris College and Broward College playing Guaynabo Conquistadoras.  Both of the games finished with an 11 to 1 score with Georgia Perimeter College and Guaynabo Conquistadoras advancing to the finals.

Sunday morning played host to the big game.   The two teams battled hard but only one team could prevail.  The 2009 AAU International Women’s Fast Pitch Softball Tournament Champion was the Guaynabo Conquistadoras; defeating the Georgia Perimeter College 6 to 1.  The tournament’s most valuable player was Jenna Lopez who led her team to victory.  The tournament’s most valuable pitcher was Jennifer Martinez.  She dominated teams with her pitching and gave her team a chance to win every time out.

Congratulations to all participating teams.   We look foward to another successful event next year.
